Balikpapan TV is the first local television in the city of Balikpapan. This television station is based in Gedung Biru Jl. Soekarno Hatta KM 3,5 RT.26 no. 46 Ex. Batu Ampar, North Balikpapan. Founded by PT. Balikpapan Television is engaged in broadcasting and is part of the Jawa Pos TV business group which covers 72 subsidiaries and 16 local televisions. BTV airs on Channel 26 UHF and can be watched on local cable television networks namely Mitra Vision and Borneo Vision as well as several other regional cable TV.
Balikpapan TV or what is now known as BTV because its existence is not only in Balikpapan started in 2008 and began trial broadcasts in 2009. BTV began to obtain broadcast licenses in early 2011, which was then designated as the birthday of BTV which is commemorated every year on January 22nd.
BTV strives to provide more information to the surrounding community through improving its programs in accordance with the conditions of the East Kalimantan people. In addition, BTV has also become a partner for the community and local government to participate in the success of development programs, particularly in the fields of education, culture, tourism promotion, and other regional potentials.
BTV presents shows that are very useful for the citizens of Balikpapan. Starting from the news, sports, to religion, has been successfully packed in a compact and also interesting. Balikpapan residents certainly feel the magnitude of the benefits of the existing shows, and they certainly hope that the proud TV station of Balikpapan continues to present interesting and useful shows without having to leave the characteristics of the city of Balikpapan.
In supporting program quality, BTV continues to add supporting facilities. In 2009 BTV bought an OB Van Bus, which allowed them to broadcast live from various corners of the city of Balikpapan and Penajam Paser Utara.
After successfully initiating the Rembug Kampung activities in Balikpapan in 2014, which brought together elements of the executive government (starting from the Mayor and the Head of the SKPD) and members of the DPRD with the Community to discuss city issues that were broadcast live on BTV, in 2015 similar activities were also adopted for carried out in Penajam Paser Utara Regency under the name "Gathering of Benuo Taka Residents" which was also broadcast live on BTV from all districts in North Penajam Paser.
On November 19, 2015, BTV was trusted to broadcast live activities of President Joko Widodo while inaugurating several mega projects worth Rp. 72 trillion in Buluminung, Penajam Paser Utara.
The range of BTV broadcasts includes Balikpapan, Paser Regency, Samboja, Kutai Kartanegara, Penajam Paser Utara. In 2014, BTV penetrated Samarinda. In 2016, BTV expanded its reach to East Kutai again.
